private houseTexel, The Netherlands
Located on the beautiful island of Texel, only ten minutes walk from the North sea, holiday home provides a cozy but distinctive stay. The solid yet sculptural interior, that is covered by the black wood shell, creates an outspoken contrast between the warm inside and bold outside. While large windows on the south side extend the living room to the covered terrace and further to the garden, the tiny house is fully integrated in its natural surroundings.
The building was designed inside out. Instead of creating a set of small rooms, focus was put on double use of spaces. Starting from the fixed elements and designing the space around it. Like a tree house, the ‘furniture-core’ facilities the sleeping zone, kitchen, library, study zone, storage and entresol. For example, what is a library at day time becomes a bedroom suite at night. Use the space when you need it!
‘..Solid yet sculptural, tiny but flexible, holiday home provides a cozy and sustainable stay..’
The tiny holiday home was designed applying sustainable solutions: nearly invisible solar panels on the roof top, natural ventilation, use of a concrete floor in the interior which acts as a thermal mass, highly insulated roof, walls, and windows.
